Men's Basketball Roll With 79-57 Win At Mount Ida

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team defeated the Mount Ida College Mustangs, 79-57 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Junior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) led all scorers with 24 points on the afternoon including 17 in a second half that saw the Rams outscore the Mustangs by a 25-point differential.

Freshman Frantz Pinard (Arlington, Mass.) chipped in with 16 points on the day for Suffolk who now improve to an 8-10 overall mark on the season and snap a short two-game losing streak to improve to a 5-6 mark in GNAC play on the year.

The opening minutes of the game were back and forth until Mount Ida was able to space themselves out to a 10-point lead with three minutes left in the opening period when a layup by freshman Nathan Bueno (Methuen, Mass.) made it a 31-21 game.

Suffolk was able to get back in to a one possession battle to finish off the half when sophomore Jake Meister (Madison, N.J.) nailed one of his game's three three-pointers with two ticks left in the half to send it to a 35-32 score heading into the break.

Suffolk would control things in the second half as they were able to outscore the Mustangs, 47-22 in the period.

Nwadike would put the Rams up five minutes into the half when his three-pointer made it a 41-39 game. Mount Ida would answer as senior Kenny Jean (Dorchester, Mass.) put in a layup to even things up. From there Suffolk would go on a 15-0 run over a four minute span with Pinard connecting on four field goals.

After a Mustangs' basket the Rams would go on a 12-2 run capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore Curtis Casella (Saugus, Mass.) to make it a 68-45 game with seven minutes remaining.

Freshman Ethan Dujon (Warwick, R.I.) finished the game with 15 points for the Mustangs, while Bueno added 10 points.

Suffolk was able to force 24 turnovers in the contest which they turned into 32 points in the game.

Meister finished the game with 11 points, while junior Matt Powers (Westwood, Mass.) added 12 points.

Suffolk will be back in action on Wednesday evening as they host Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday evening at 7:30pm.
