Men's Hoop Fall On the Road To Lasell

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team dropped a 71-65 decision at the hands of the Lasell College Lasers in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

The second half once again gave the Rams difficulties as they took a 36-34 lead into the break. A 13-2 Lasers' run halfway through the second half would put Lasell College up 55-54 when Brock Walters connected on a three-pointer.

Senior Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) would even the game a minute later as he connected on one of two free-throws from the line until Brandon Ganesh would score seven points over a two minute span to give the Lasers a 64-58 lead with a little less than five minutes in regulation.

The Rams would push their way back to a one-point margin as senior Jhonneris Mendez (Boston, Mass.) dropped four straight points on a layup and back-to-back free-throws. Freshman Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) would put in a bucket before senior Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) sunk a free-throw to make it a 66-65 game with 1:25 on the clock.

Lasell would go 5-for-6 as a team in the remainder of the game as the Rams went 0-for-3 from the field in that span.

Ganesh led all scorers in the contest as he scored 28 points on a 9-for-17 performance from the field, including 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Torres was 6-for-10 from the field as he finished with a team-high 18 points. Mendez was just short of his first career double-double as he put in 14 points to go along with nine rebounds. Sophomore Matt Powers (Westwood, Mass.) scored 12 points for the Rams off the bench with a 4-for-7 shooting performance in the game.

The win moves the Lasers to a 2-12 overall mark on the year as they pick up their first GNAC win in seven tries.

Suffolk falls to 4-8 and a 2-3 record in GNAC play.

The Rams will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to New Haven to take on the 19th ranked Albertus Magnus College Falcons in GNAC action.
