Torres Paces Offense in 100-76 Men's Basketball Victory

Senior Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) scored a season high 28 points to lead the Suffolk University Men's Basketball team to a 100-76 victory over the New England College Pilgrims in non-conference action on Monday evening.

Torres was 10-for-18 from the field as the Rams finished with four players recording double digits on the evening.

Senior Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) scored 20 points and added nine rebounds, while senior Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) added 12 points. Sophomore Matt Powers (Westwood, Mass.) scored 13 points off the bench in 4-for-7 shooting from the field.

For the Pilgrims senior Abdirahman Mohamed (Biddeford, Me.) scored a team-high 16 points, while freshman Javon Williams (New Britain, Conn.) added 14 points on 6-for-10 shoooting from the field.

The Rams held the lead for 38 minutes in the contest as a 21-point first half from Torres would give them a 52-35 edge heading into the break.

Suffolk would come out shooting in the second half as well with a 53.1-percent effort as a team (17-for-32) as they outscored New England College 48-41 over the final twenty minutes.

Sophomore Joel DeMadet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half for the Pilgrims as he was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and added four free throws.

Suffolk held a 58-38 edge in the contest in rebounds as freshman Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) pull in a game-high 10 boards. Unni finished just shy of a double-double as he also scored nine points for the Rams.

The win moves Suffolk back to the .500 mark with a 3-3 record.

New England College remains winless on the season at 0-7.

Both teams will be back in conference action on Thursday evening. New England College will travel to take on UMaine-Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at 7:30pm. The Rams will continue their four game homestand with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against Norwich University at the Regan Gymnasium at 7:30pm.
