Men's Basketball Duo Garner GNAC Weekly Honors

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team had two players earn recognition by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) on Monday, December 3 after the Rams opened conference play this past weekend with a 77-68 victory over St. Joseph's College.

Senior Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) earned GNAC Player of the Week honors. Halpin became the 27th player in Suffolk's 65-year program history to record his 1,000th career point. Halpin finished Saturday's game with 25 points bringing his career total to 1,007 in 70 games played at Suffolk. Halpin hit the career mark with 9:29 remaining in the second half, his 18th point of the game as he scored an easy lay in off a feed from fellow senior Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.). In 5 games this season, Halpin leads the Rams with an 18.2 points per game average, which stands for third among conference scorers.

Freshman Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) was named GNAC Rookie of the Week after a monster game on Saturday. Unni led all scorers in the contest with 29 points. The freshman guard torched St. Joseph's in the first half for 16 points on 4-for-5 shooting from three-point land and played an instrumental role in closing out the victory as he was a perfect 10-for-10 in the second half from the free-throw line. Unni was also the leading scorer for Suffolk in Thursday's 92-77 setback at UMass-Boston as he scored 18 points.

Suffolk enters the final week of the first half of the regular season with a 2-3 record. They'll host three games this week before the break with non-conference games on Monday (New England College, 7:30pm) and Saturday (Tufts, 3:00pm) and a GNAC matchup against Norwich University on Thursday evening at 7:30pm sandwiched in between.
