Trio Guides Men's Hoops to GNAC Victory

Juniors Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) and Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) combined for 60 points, while Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) netted 18 in the second half as the Suffolk University Men's Basketball team (8-10, 5-6 GNAC) picked up their third win in a row with a 92-76 victory over Lasell College (7-11, 6-5 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening.

Suffolk trailed by ten points at the half before Pepdjonovic got them within reach with eight minutes remaining in the contest to tie it at 65-65 on a layup. Freshman Raphy Medrano (Salem, Mass.) then connected on a three-pointer thirteen seconds later to give the Rams their first lead of the contest which would last for the remainder of the contest.

The Rams were dominant in the paint outscoring the Lasers 60-22 down low, and were more dominant on the glass with a 49-38 edge.

Pepdjonovic finished the evening with a career-high 31 points and rounded out yet another double-double collecting 18 rebounds. He also finished with six blocked shots in the contest. Halpin also was in double figures in both categories as he had 29 points and 11 boards.

Suffolk was able to contain the duo of Sean Bertanza and Javon Williams who torched the Rams in their first meeting as this time around they only combined to score 37 points.

It was the opposite of the first meeting between to two teams with Lasell coming out slow in the second half only shooting 28.6 percent as a team from the field over the final twenty minutes of action.

The 92 points are the most the Rams have scored in a win this season, and surprisingly they were able to do so with only six players registering points. The Rams didn't need much help though as their big three combined to out score the Laser team over the course of the second half comeback 44-32 and outrebound them 25-18.

Suffolk will be back on the road on Saturday afternoon as they travel to St. Joseph's College for a GNAC matchup with the Monks at 3:00pm.
