Men's Basketball Outlast Norwich, 75-67

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team (6-10, 3-6 GNAC) pulled out a 75-67 victory over the Norwich University Cadets (4-11, 3-6 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Juniors Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) and Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) led the Rams as they combined for 40 points. Pepdjonovic finished with his 41st career double-double recording 19 points and tied a career-high with 23 rebounds while Torres scored 21 points with 15 of them coming in the second half.

The turning point of the day came with eight minutes remaining in the second half as freshman Carlos De La Cruz (Marlborough, Mass.) came off the bench and connected on consecutive three-pointers to give the Rams a 59-53 edge as they would not give back the lead throughout the remainder of the contest.

Torres took control over the game late with two minutes remaining as he scored eight consecutive points for Suffolk including a clutch three-pointer from the corner with 2:15 left on the clock to make it a 68-64 game.

Suffolk was able to maintain a 48-38 edge in rebounds in the contest, highlight by Pepdjonovic's 23. Pepdjonovic had a strong defensive day for the Rams as he collected 17 defensive boards, blocked two shots and collected two steals.

Sophomore Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) had a team-high 16 points on 4-for-8 shooting from beyond the arc as he was one of the Cadets players to finish in double-digits in scoring. Freshman Evan Tuller (Chelsea, Vt.)  collected 15 points, while senior Antonio Davis (Albany, N.Y.) scored 11 points.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on Tuesday evening with Norwich travelling to Emerson College while Suffolk hosts Rivier College at the Regan Gymnasium beginning at 7:30pm.
