Men's Basketball Fall in GNAC Playoffs

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team (8-18 overall) had their season ended in Tuesday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals at the hands of the second-seeded Johnson & Wales Wildcats(18-8 overall, 96-63.

Lamonte Thomas, the leading scorer among all NCAA Division-III players put in 33 points to lead the Wildcats to their 18th victory of the season.

Sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) led the Rams with 19 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) had 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The starting five for the Wildcats all reached double digits in scoring as they combined for 86 points in the contest as Johnson & Wales shot 53.7 percent from the field as a team in the game.

The Rams started out quick hold a 13-8 lead in the opening minutes of play as Halpin opened the game scoring five of Suffolk's first 13 points, but a three-point by James Folk would give the Wildcats a one-point edge and they would not look back.

Johnson & Wales held a 45-30 lead at the half and continued to score in the second half as they shot 60 percent as a team from three-point land.

With the win the Wildcats move on to Thursday's semifinals.
