Pepdjonovic, Halpin Lift Rams Past Lasell, 97-87

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team (8-16, 6-11 GNAC) topped the Lasell College Lasers (5-19, 4-13 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening, 97-87.

Sophomores Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) and Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) combined for 46 points for the Rams who now move to 6-11 in the GNAC standings with hopes of reaching the league playoffs starting on Tuesday.

Pepdjonovic finished the game with 23 points and 20 rebounds, reaching the 20-20 plateau for the second time this season, while recording his 15th double-double of the year. Halpin also added 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field, along with six assists and five rebounds.

Junior Justin Barall (East Hampton, Conn.) recorded his first career double-double scoring 15 points along with a season-high 10 assists.

Junior Javon Williams (Mattapan, Mass.) led all scorers in the game with 35 points, while collecting 13 rebounds for the Lasers. Sophomore Sean Bertanza (Seymour, Conn.) also had 24 points playing the entire game for Lasell.

Both teams came out firing in a wild first half that saw seven lead changes as both teams shot fifty-one percent from the field going into the break with a 45-45 score.

Senior Mike Fleming (Exeter, N.H.) got the Rams going to start the second half connecting on a three-pointer as Suffolk would hold the lead over the final twenty minutes of play. The Rams would manage to get their lead up to 14 points eleven minutes into the contest as Pepdjonovic layed in his own rebound.

Bertanza and Williams would chip away at the Suffolk lead as the duo combined for 32 of their team's 42 second half points. Bertanza would get the Lasers back within four points with eight minutes remaining after connecting on a pair of free throws, but that was as close as they could get.

Halpin would take control of the game in the second half for Suffolk going 6-for-8 from the field, and Barall added some relief putting in 13 points of his own.

Fleming was the fourth Rams player to reach double digits in points, while senior Allan Ray (Lynn, Mass.) and junior Mike Gibbons (Ringwood, N.J.) each had nine points.

Suffolk held a 45-38 advantage in rebounds in the contest.

Both teams wrap up the regular season on Saturday with GNAC action. Lasell will host Rivier College at 2:00pm, while Suffolk heads to New Haven, Conn. to take on the Albertus Magnus Falcons at 3:30pm.
