Men's Basketball Fall to Emmanuel

Sophomore Michael Mailhot (Norwich, Conn.) scored 18 second half points to lead the Emmanuel College Saints (6-14, 5-9 GNAC) to a 81-69 win over the Suffolk University Rams (5-14, 3-9 GNAC) on Saturday afternoon at the Regan Gymnasium. Mailhot led all scorers in the game with 25 points, going 5-for-6 from three-point land.

Senior Mike Fleming (Exeter, N.H.) led the Rams with 16 points as Suffolk now falls to 3-9 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, while the Saints move to a 5-9 record.

The Rams went into halftime leading 33-27and were able to build their largest lead of the game at eleven points when sophomore Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) sunk a free-throw following a layup one minute into the second period.

Mailhot and the Saints would come storming back going on a 12-2 run bringing the Saints within one. Mailhot would connect on three straight shots from beyond the arc within ninety seconds to put Emmanuel up 45-42 five minutes into the second half.

The Rams got the lead back with eight and a half minutes remaining as sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) connected on a pair of free throws to put the Rams up by two 54-52.

Junior Nate Jackson's (Middleboro, Mass.) slam dunk would even the game thirty seconds later regaining the momentum for the Saints and they would not relinquish another lead for the remainder of the contest. Jackson finished with 10 points.

The Saints would shoot 17-for-20 from the free-throw line as a team, including 9-for-10 in the final two minutes of play to seal their sixth victory of the season.

Sophomore Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) scored all 16 of his points in the contest in the second half as the Saints outscored the Rams 54-36.

Halpin finished with 12 points for the Rams, while senior Dan Williams (Taunton, Mass.) had eight points and five rebounds.

Emmanuel held a 42-26 edge in rebounds in the contest that resulted in 15 second chance points, compared to Suffolk's six.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action this Tuesday evening. Emmanuel will host Rivier College at 7:00pm, while Suffolk will host Norwich University at the Regan Gymnasium at 7:30pm.
