The Albertus Magnus Falcons (8-7, 6-2 GNAC) defeated the Suffolk University Rams (5-10, 3-5 GNAC) by an 89-77 score on Saturday afternoon at the Regan Gymnasium. The Falcons finished with four players reaching double digits in scoring as they were led by junior Ray Askew (New Haven, Conn.), who finished the game with 22 points and 14 rebounds. The win improves the Falcons to 6-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, while Suffolk falls to 3-5.

 Sophomore Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) led all scorers with 24 points, recording his 10th double-double of the season as the Suffolk center also collected 13 rebounds in the game.

The Falcons, who entered the game averaging a league best 86.1 points nearly saw a 17-point lead disappear as the Rams closed the game within five points with eight minutes remaining as a Pepdjonovic layup made it 62-57.

Albertus would turn it back on going on an 11-2 run over the next three minutes of action to build their lead back up to 73-59 with six minutes left as Askew put in two of his 16 points in the second half.

A slow start doomed the Rams as the Falcons opened the game with a 15-2 run and closed out the first half with an 11-4 run as they entered the break leading 41-26. Suffolk would change their defensive pressure in the second half and outscored the visitors 51-48, but could not close the gap late.

Senior Walden St. Juste (Hartford, Conn.) scored 16 points, while sophomore Jefferson Lora (Bronx, N.Y.) added 15 points and nine rebounds. Junior Byron Reaves (Hamden, Conn.) netted 10 points for the Falcons on 5-for-8 shooting from the field.

Junior Mike Fleming (Exeter, N.H.) scored 17 points for Suffolk off the bench, while sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) added nine points and seven boards in limited action due to an injury. Junior Justin Barrall (East Hampton, Conn.) had seven assists for the Rams.

Albertus used their size to their advantage outrebounding the Rams 57-46, while scoring 30 second chance points in the contest.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action this upcoming Tuesday. The Falcons will play host to Johnson & Wales University at 7:00pm, while the Rams travel across the Boston Common to take on the Emerson College Lions for a 7:00pm start.
