Rivier Tops Suffolk 72-58

Sophomore Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) collected his ninth double-double on the season recording 24 points and 10 rebounds, but the Suffolk University Men's Basketball team (5-9, 3-4 GNAC) fell to the Rivier College Raiders (8-5, 3-3 GNAC) by a 72-58 score on Monday afternoon.

A 9-0 run by the Raiders over the final three minutes of play sealed the fate for the Rams after they were able to close the gap to five points after sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) connected on a layup with 3:25 remaining to make the score 63-58.

The Rams opened the game strong as they took the lead in the opening minutes of play. A dunk by Pepdjonovic gave the Rams a five point lead in the first seven minutes of play, but the Raiders would turn the tables over the final ten minutes of play in the first half as they went into the break with an 11-point lead.

Pepdjonovic was a monster in the first half scoring 18 of the Rams' 28 points, but the Rams could not get much else going offensively.

Halpin finished the game with 12 points and nine rebounds for the Rams as they now fall to 3-4 in GNAC play this season. Junior Mike Gibbons (Ringwood, N.J.) had 10 points for Suffolk.

Senior Don Poitras (Bow, N.H.) finished the game with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while freshman Tom Poitras (Bow, N.H.) had 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Raiders shot 19-for-26 from the free-throw line in the contest, while the Rams went just 1-for-5 in their free-throw attempts.

The Rams will be back in action on Saturday as they host Albertus Magnus College at 2:00pm in the Regan Gymnasium.
