Men's Hoops Top Mount Ida, 77-66

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team (5-8, 3-3 GNAC) topped the Mount Ida College Mustangs (4-8, 1-4 GNAC), 77-66 on Saturday afternoon at the Regan Gymnasium. Sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) finished the game with 17 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) posted another double-double with 16 points and 15 boards as the Rams pick up their third win of the season in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Junior Isiah Benjamin (Windsor, Conn.) led all scorers with 25 points in the contest for the Mustangs who made a late run to close the game within four points with two minutes remaining.

Senior Allan Ray (Lynn, Mass.) connected on consecutive three-pointers to give the Rams their largest lead of the contest at 16 seven minutes into the second half to put the Rams up 52-36.

The Mustangs would chip away throughout the remainder of the period going on a 14-4 run over the course of four minutes to bring the game to 70-66 with two and a half minutes remaining.

Senior Mike Fleming (Exeter, N.H.) would hit a huge three point shot from the corner with 1:42 remaining to put the Rams up seven as the Mustangs could not score another point the remainder of the contest.

Mount Ida held the lead for the majority of the first half until late when Pepdjonovic would connect with 1:35 remaining in the half as Suffolk took the lead for the good. Benjamin scored 16 of his points in the opening period going 4-for-6 from the field, and finished the game a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

Junior Travis Hillery (Tyngsboro, Mass.) finished the game with 15 points for the Mustangs and was the team's leading rebounder with seven boards.

Ray finished with 10 points, while sophomore Mickey McEntee (South Kingstown, R.I.) collected 10 points and four boards for the Rams.

Suffolk held the edge in rebounds at 45-34, while shooting 52.5 percent from the field as a team.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Norwich University at 7:00pm. The Rams will travel to Rivier College for a 3:00pm GNAC contest on Monday.
