Men's Hoops Fall to Eagles 79-65

The Daniel Webster College Eagles (3-2) topped the Suffolk University Rams (3-3) by a 79-65 score on Tuesday evening at the Regan Gymnasium. The Eagles had five players finish in double digits in scoring, led by by senior Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) who had 18 points going 7-for-9 in the contest from the field, including 4-for-5 from three point land.

Sophomore Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) led all scorers in the game with 21 points for Suffolk, who now fall to 3-3 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 3-2.

The Eagles controlled much of the second half as they shot fifty percent as a team from the field, outscoring the Rams 40-28. Hanson was a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the second half scoring nine points.

The Rams came out quick early as junior Mike Gibbons (Ringwood, N.J.) connected on four three pointers in the opening six mintes of the contest as the Rams opened up a nine point spread at 21-12.

Daniel Webster would answer however going on a 14-2 run over the next six minutes of play. Each team would go back and forth the rest of the half before sophomore Keith Speed (Columbus, Ohio) hit a layup with eight seconds remaining to give the Eagles a 39-37 lead heading into the break. Daniel Webster would hold the lead the reaminder of the second half pushing the margin to 10 with two minutes left as senior Eric Suarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) put in a layup and hit a free throw following for the three point play.

Sophomore Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) collected another double-double finishing the game with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Suffolk, while junior Justin Barall (East Hampton, Conn.) finished with a season high eight assists. Gibbons finished the game with 14 points.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Fitchburg State at 1:00pm. Suffolk will travel to UMass-Boston on Thursday evening to take on the Beacons at 7:30pm.
