Henniker, N.H. – Suffolk University guard Mike
Gibbons (Ringwood, N.J.) exploded for a game-high 35
points leading the Rams past the UMaine Presque Isle Owls 103-82
Saturday afternoon in Henniker. With the win the Rams improve to
2-0 on the season, while the loss drops the Owls to 0-2
overall.
UMPI offense would open the game on fire hitting their first three
shots and building an early 9-2 lead. The two teams would continue
to battle back-and-forth before Suffolk would nail three
consecutive three pointers taking their first lead of the game at
23-17 with 11:47 remaining in the half.
The Rams would slowly build a lead over the Owls shooting 50% from
the field and head into halftime with the comfortable 53-39
lead.
UMPI would battle back midway through the second half trailing just
10 with 9:00 minutes left on the clock but Suffolk would continue
their hot shooting finishing the game shooting 50% from the
three-point arc and hold on for the 103-82 victory.
Suffolk’s Matt Pepdjonvic (Quincy, Mass.)
finished with 23 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Nolan
DiPanfilo (Saugus, Mass.) was the only other Ram in
double-figures chipping in 18 points.
Leading the way for UMPI was Ray Mitchell (Cleveland, Ohio) who
finished with a double-double scoring a team-high 21 points and
grabbing 11 rebounds. UMPI’s Ben Rosser (Caribou, Maine) had
20 points and nine rebounds, while Kyle Corrigan (Caribou, Maine
finished with 10 points and a game-high seven assists.
