Beacons Edge Rams, 90-81

Boston, Mass. -  The UMass-Boston Beacons (2-4 overall) held on to a 90-81 victory over the Suffolk University Rams (4-2 overall) on Thursday evening at the Regan Gymnasium. Senior forward Ernst Jean (Malden, MA.) finished the game with a double-double posting 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.  Michael Mitchell Jr. (Boston, MA.) and junior Mo Johnson (Portland, Ore.) both scored 20 points on the evening for the Beacons who have now won both of their games on the road.

Sophomore Mike Gibbons (Ringwood, NJ) had a game-high 26 points for Suffolk, including connecting on six field goals from beyond the arc. Junior Allan Ray (Lynn, MA) picked up his first double-double of the season adding 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The difference in the game proved to be turnovers as the Beacons forced 25 Rams' turnovers including 15 in the first half.

The Beacons out rebounded the Rams 42-41 in the game, including 22 offensive rebounds.

Freshman Nolan DiPanfilo (Saugus, MA) finished the game with 12 points for the Rams, while sophomore Mike Fleming (Exeter, N.H.) also chipped in with 10.

Sophomore Justin Favors (Marbleton, GA) also had 16 points for the Beacons.

Both teams open up their conference schedules on Saturday. UMass-Boston will Keene State on Saturday at 3:00pm in a Little East matchup, while the Rams open up their Great Northeast Athletic Conference schedule as they host Johnson & Wales at 3:00pm at the Regan Gymnasium.
