Boston, MA -- Mike
Gibbons (Ringwood, NJ) led his Suffolk University Men’s
Basketball squad (0-3 GNAC, 1-10 overall) with five three-pointers
and 21 points, but it wasn’t enough as Johnson & Wales
(3-3 GNAC, 3-10 overall) prevailed for the third consecutive
conference game with an 80-65 win at Suffolk’s Regan
Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Allan Ray
(Lynn, MA) came up with a double-double for the Rams, scoring 12
points and grabbing ten rebounds. Mario Massimino (East
Haven, CT) was the third Rams’ player to reach double figures
as he posted 11 points and nine rebounds.
Darren Faust and Lamonte Thomas combined for 43 points for the
Wildcats. Faust netted 23 points, including four three-pointers and
seven rebounds. Thomas dropped 20 points and added seven
assists.
Suffolk trailed 36-32 at the break after forcing JWU to shoot just
36.8% from the field, but the Wildcats knocked down 51.9% of their
shots in the second half to outscore the Rams 44-33.
Gibbons gave Suffolk a 43-40 lead early in the second half, but a
Faust three-pointer and a jumper from Thomas gave the Wildcats the
lead for good at 45-43 with 14:22 remaining. JWU kept the momentum
going as they exploded for a game-changing 11-0 run to take a
commanding 58-45 lead with under ten minutes to go to seal the
victory.
The Rams play their next four games on the road and take on Johnson
& Wales in a rematch Monday afternoon in Providence, RI at 1:00
pm.
