Golf Teams Wins Second Match of the Season

The Suffolk University Men's Golf team won their second outing of the season as they topped the Newbury College Nighthawks in head-to-head action on Tuesday afternoon. The Rams' five shot a total of 313 on the day outpacing the host Nighthawks by 25 shots. The match was played at Putterham Meadows Golf Course in Brookline, a par 71 course.

Senior Mike Dixon (Medford, Mass.) earned the individual medal for top shooter on the day as his combined 18-hole score was a 76. Dixon opened up with a round of 36 over the front-nine and closed with a 40 on the following nine holes as the day's top player.

The top four shooters on the day were all Rams. Sophomore Luke Ferrari (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Chris Taggert (Norwood, Mass.) each tied for the second best score with a 78. Ferrari who earned recognition for his efforts by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in last week's Rams win was similar in his performance with a strong finish as he shot a 37 on the back-nine holes. Taggert tied Dixon through the first nine holes of the match with a score of 36.

Sophomore Steve LeClerc (Malden, Mass.) finished the day with an 81 score (41-40), while senior William Sullivan (Haverhill, Mass.) rounded out the field for the Rams carding an 86.

It was the second time in a week that the two teams squared off on the greens. Last week the Rams took home the team award at the Saints Invitational hosted by Emmanuel College at William J. Devine Golf Course in Boston's Franklin Park. Suffolk outshot the Nighthawks to win it by an 11-stroke margin that day.

Suffolk will be back on the greens on October 3rd as they square off with Emmanuel College in a two-team match.
