Golf Wins Opening Match of 2012 at Saints Invitational

The Suffolk University Golf team finished with the first-place score in the Emmanuel College Saints Invitational on Thursday afternoon as the Rams combined to shoot a 305 score as a team in their opening match of 2012.

Sophomore Luke Ferrari (Milton, Mass.) won the individual medal for top shooter on the day as he finished with a combined score of 71 (+1) on the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park, a 70-par course. Ferrari shot a 36 on the front-nine and then recorded three birdies on the back nine, shooting one under on the last half to round a score of 35. Ferrari finished the day with five total birdies.

Senior John Pettoruto (Windham,N.H.) had a strong showing as well for the Rams, as he finished with the third best individual score of the twenty-player field recording a 78. Pettoruto led the field through the first nine holes carding a 35.

Senior William Sullivan (Haverhill, Mass.) finished the day with a score of 78, while junior Joe Surace (Pearl River, N.Y.) carded a 79. The top four Rams' shooters were a group of only five players to shoot under 80 for the day.

Rounding out the field for the Rams was senior Erik Doldt (Dedham, Mass.), who recorded an 84 on the course.

Host Emmanuel College finished in third place as they posted a team-score of 339, while Newbury College placed second with a five-player tally of 316. Daniel Webster College was the fourth team that took part in the invitational as the Eagles combined for a 357 record on the day.

Suffolk will be back on the links on Tuesday as they play Newbury College at 1:00pm.
