Suffolk alum and four-year letterwinner for the Rams, Mac Jacobson, returned to the University to join the baseball coaching staff in September 2014 and begins his eighth season in 2022.

As an assistant coach for the Rams, Jacobson works with outfielders on defensive schematics including positioning, tendencies and patterns of opponent’s balls in play. He also works with hitters on plate approach and player techniques.

In his seven seasons on Anthony Del Prete’s staff, Jacobson helped Suffolk to four consecutive GNAC Titles from 2015-18 and the program’s fifth through eighth trips to NCAA DIII Tournament. 

Jacobson's work with the team in 2020 and 2021 was limited due to the COVID-19 global pandemic. 

A first in program history came in 2019 when the Rams captured the GNAC regular-season title for the second straight season after going 14-2 in league play. The regular-season momentum was not carried over to the postseason, however, and for the first-time in the Del Prete era, Suffolk would not take home the conference crown as it slipped in the semifinals to conclude the 2019 campaign, 23-18-1. 

Jacobson helped Suffolk push the limits once again in 2018 as the Rams raised the GNAC banner for the fourth time in as many years. After taking home the regular season conference crown with a 13-1 league ledger, Suffolk worked its way through the winner’s bracket by keeping Ram Nation on the edge of its seats with one-run wins in the quarterfinals, semifinals and again in the title tilt, which the blue-and-gold won, 6-5, against Saint Joseph’s (Maine) May 6. 

Along the way, Suffolk saw milestone moments including 2018 GNAC Player of the Year Brady Chant join the 200-hit club with a lead-off single to open a two-game series, which the Rams won, against Lasell April 8 and the program garner its 1000th victory in an 11-2 offensive onslaught nightcap at Norwich April 21.  

Individual honors rolled in across 2018 as well with Chant, an all-region, first-team selection by D3Baseball.com and the NEIBA in conjunction with the ABCA/Rawlings, respectively, headlining 11 student-athletes combine for 16 all-league accolades. Chant also propelled Suffolk to academic success as the Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree anchored the Rams’ to ABCA Team Academic Excellence for the second straight season. 

In 2017, Jacobson aided in the Rams’ threepeat GNAC glory and historical third straight NCAA Tournament trip. Overall, Suffolk finished the season 28-17, playing on Championship Sunday of the NCAA Regional for the first time in seven trips. 

Jacobson helped the program see its ninth overall All-American in junior centerfielder Brady Chant, who earned D3Baseball.com All-American Honorable Mention status. Chant ended the season as the nation’s statistical champion in triples (12) and triples per game (0.27) to anchor Suffolk’s NCAA Statistical Crown status in both categories. Chant, along with senior catcher Matt Brenner, garnered first-team all-region recognition by both D3Baseball.com and the NEIBA in conjunction with ABCA/Rawlings, respectively, while senior hurler Chuck Gibson grabbed a spot on NEIBA/ABCA/Rawlings all-region first-team and earned second-team status by D3Baseball.com. Overall, 10 student-athletes picked up 12 all-conference honors.  

The 2017 Rams were also recognized for their success in the classroom as the team earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, achieving a 3.10 grade point average collectively. Individually, Brenner garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District recognition for his success both academically and athletically.  

Jacobson played a key role Rams’ thrilling success in 2016, which saw the blue–and–gold capture the second–most victories in program history at 33–13 (11–3 GNAC), while leading the league in virtually every offensive statistical category highlighted by 345 runs scored, the highest among New England teams.

Along the way, four Rams picked up all-region honors from the NEIBA in Brady Chant, Jake Frasca, Drew Carter and Kevin Sinatra. Suffolk also took home 17 postseason accolades from the GNAC including top honors in Pitcher of the Year Worth Walrod and Rookie of the Year (Frasca).

In 2015, Suffolk grabbed its fifth GNAC title and headed to NCAAs for the fifth time in program history behind Tournament MVP Josh Desai’s arm, which threw a complete– game, 3–2 win over St. Joe’s in the semifinals. Three Rams were recognized by the conference for their performances on the diamond. Desai took home second–team and tournament MVP accolades, while Jon Lapolla, who led the Rams in batting average (.291), slugging percentage (.455) and on–base percentage (.429), was awarded a spot on the third–team. Brady Chant, who received a Gold Glove by the league as the centerfielder without an error, was chosen to the all–tourney team.

As a player, Jacobson put together a .447 on-base percentage over his four-year career. His ability to get on base saw him finish back-to-back seasons among the national leaders in hit by pitches with 39 combined between 2013 and 2014. An All-GNAC selection as a senior captain, he hit a career-best .329 with 22 RBI.  

Jacobson graduated from Suffolk in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
