WEYMOUTH, Mass. – Suffolk baseball used early momentum from a game-opening jack by Colin Flynn to take down Wentworth, 2-1, Monday afternoon in Conference of New England action at Libbey Field.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Wentworth 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-17, 4-5 CNE) | Wentworth (9-18, 3-7 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Flynn led off the contest with a solo shot to left field to give Suffolk a 1-0 lead.
The Rams added to their advantage in the top of the fifth with a two-out rally. Sebastian Lampert singled to center and moved to third when Mike Mullaney laced a double to left field. Cole Hilliard's base hit to third scored Lampert to give the blue-and-gold a 2-0 edge.
The Leopards threatened in the home half of the sixth. A pair of base hits put runners on second and third for WIT, and that's when Jack Raimo came in to take over for TJ Dimitriou on the bump. A.T. DiPina had a productive ground out that scored Matt Robinson to slice the margin in half, 2-1.
Suffolk went down in order in the top of the seventh to keep Ram Nation on the edge of its seat in the bottom half of the inning. Raimo quickly got the first two outs with a backwards K followed by a ground out to the pitcher. Cyle Archer singled to bring the game-winning run to the plate. Luckily, Hilliard converted a ground out to first with no help when Devon Lapierre put the ball into play to lock up the win.
