MILTON, Mass. – Suffolk's baseball's bats produced 16 hits, five for extra bases including two grand slams, to take down Curry, 18-3, in seven innings, in the second game of a Conference of New England (CNE) double feature Saturday at Jack Valley Diamond.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 18 | Curry 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (10-17, 3-5 CNE) | Curry (8-17, 4-8 CNE)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk's bats got going in the second stanza. Sam Armbruster singled, Sebastian Lampert walked and Mike Mullaney's base hit to center brought the first run of the day in. Cole Hilliard kept the rally going as he singled through the left side to fill the bags. Max Martin cleared the bases as he barreled a bomb over left field to give the Rams' a 5-0 cushion.
That offensive output nearly doubled in the third inning. Once again Mullaney brought the first run of the frame around with a single down the left field line. Colin Flynn collected two runs with a double down the left field line before Max Martin was hit by a pitch, which forced Curry to make a change on the bump. The fresh arm was no match for Chris Cimino, who singled to center, to bring two more runs in. Alex Sorenti-Burns worked a walk to put all the ducks in the pond in time for Max Iorio to go yard down the right field line to give the blue-and-gold a 14-0 advantage.
The Colonels eliminated the shutout with one run in the bottom of the fourth.
The Rams responded with three runs in the top of the fifth. Iorio, Armbruster and Hilliard all brought one run in base hits for the 17-1 margin.
Curry once again managed to get one run in the home half of the fifth to chip the gap to 15, 17-2.
A sac fly by Iorio in the sixth, that plated Ross Treubig, who doubled to center, restored the 16-run margin, 18-2.
The Colonels had one more run come in in the bottom of the seventh for the 18-3 final.
