No. 4/6 Endicott Too Much for Baseball

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk baseball was stumped by No. 4/6 Endicott, 23-4, in seven innings in Conference of New England (CNE) action Tuesday afternoon at North Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | No. 4/6 Endicott 23
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-12, 1-2 CNE) | No. 4/6 Endicott (14-3, 4-0 CNE)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Endicott's offense started early with a five-run first frame and a three-run second stanza to put the Rams in an 8-0 hole.

Suffolk snuck on the board in the top of the third. Cole Hilliard barreled a one-out, ground-rule double down the left field line, moved over behind a sac from Colin Flynn and came in on Max Martin's single to short to eliminate the shutout.

The Gulls responded in the home half of the inning with two runs of their own to extend the distance to 10-1.

After a scoreless fourth, the blue-and-gold added another run in the fifth. Flynn singled to third and moved into scoring position on a throwing error by Endicott's third baseman. Max Martin collected his second RBI on the day with a base hit to right to trim the deficit down to eight.

In a case of déjà vu the Gulls responded to Suffolk's one run with two of their own to turn it into a 12-2 game.

A lopsided 11-run sixth by Endicott pushed the distance to 23-2.

Suffolk made one last offense push in the top of the seventh. Noah Greco singled to short before Nolan Lopes doubled down the left field line to put two ducks in the pond. Max Iorio cleared the bags with a single to right center to make it 23-2. The score stayed there as Sam Armbruster flew out into the final out of the day.
