Bowdoin Bests Baseball in Nightcap, 11-7

DAVENPORT, Mass. – In a see-saw affair, Suffolk baseball came out on the wrong side of an 11-7 decision to Bowdoin in the nightcap of a double feature at Northeast Regional Park at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 7 | Bowdoin 11
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-6) | Bowdoin (4-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bowdoin broke open the scoring in the top of the third with four runs on two hits and a Rams over throw.

Suffolk responded on its next turn at the plate as it ran throw the order to take the lead 6-4. Jack Mihalchik and Colin Flynn placed singles on opposite sides of the outfield to put two ducks in the pond for Cole Hilliard.  Hilliard put down the bunt to push the runners over and the Polar Bears' backstop Finn Cahill's throw was off the mark that allowed the first Rams run to come in. Sam Armbruster walked before Max Iorio collected an RBI on a fielder's choice to short that sliced the deficit in half.

The blue-and-gold's scoring did not stop there. Chris Cimino's single to left plated Hilliard to make it a one-run game. Back-to-back bases loaded walks from Max Martin and Sebastian Lampert sent Suffolk in front, 5-4. In his second plate appearance of the inning, Mihalchik's 43 ground out brought in Alex Sorenti-Burns, who walked, to pad the Rams' cushion at two.

The Rams extended its edge further in the fourth thanks to another bases loaded walk, their third of the day, to make it 7-4.

Back-and-forth action continued as the Polar Bears had another four-run inning in the top of the fifth to jump back in front, 8-7.

A scoreless sixth was followed by insurance for Bowdoin in the seventh as it lengthened its lead to 11-7.

In the bottom of the inning, Sorenti-Burns worked a base on balls to get the frame underway. With one out, the Polar Bears went to their pen and brought Huge Devine in to throw. The sidearm retired the next two batters to seal the loss for Suffolk.
