
DAVENPORT, Mass. – Down five, Max Martin's jack sparked Suffolk baseball's offense, but it would not be enough as Bowdoin held off the Rams comeback to hand the blue-and-gold a 5-2 loss in the opener of a doubleheader Monday afternoon at Northeast Regional Park at the RussMatt Central Baseball Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bowdoin scored one run in the first two innings, two in the third and another in the fourth to put Suffolk in a five-run hole.
After a scoreless fifth, Max Martin went yard to put the Rams on the scoreboard. The senior catcher's homer brought in Sebastian Lampert, who reached on a passed ball, as well, to cut the margin to three, 5-2.
Suffolk kept the gap at three as it forced Bowdoin to strand a pair on the corners in the home half of the sixth.
Sam Armbruster led off the top of the seventh with a double to left field and moved to third on a productive ground out by Max Iorio. He was kept there was the next two Rams went down in order, which sealed Suffolk's setback.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Colin McNeal took the loss. He gave up one run on two hits and three walks and the first inning of play.
- Cam Martin compiled a four-run, six-hit, three-walk, three-strikeout effort in 3.0 innings of relief.
- Will Talbert tossed 2.0 innings of scoreless relief with one hit and one walk allowed.
- Jason Bogdanos earned the victory. He compiled a two-run, eight-hit, eight-walk day in 6.0 innings.
- Will Bordes came in and recorded the save with 1.0 inning of scoreless effort with one hit let up.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Cole Hilliard put together a 3-for-3 effort.
- Armbruster went 2-for-4 with one double.
- Iorio also went 2-for-4.
- Max Martin's lone hit of the outing went over the fence and brought in two RBI. He added one run.
- Chris Ciminio chipped in one run.
- Lampert scored one run.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk and Bowdoin renewed a rivalry. The teams met for the first time since May 6, 2012.
- Max Martin produced his first homer of the season, second of his Suffolk career.
- McNeal made his Suffolk debut.
