Lampert’s Grand Slam Leads Baseball Past St. Scholastica in Nightcap, 5-3

DAVENPORT, Fla. – Sebastian Lampert's first collegiate homer came in grand slam fashion to break a 1-all tie and send Suffolk baseball to a 5-3 game two victory over St. Scholastica at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Northeast Regional Park Friday.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 5 | St. Scholastica 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-2) | St. Scholastica (1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED
The scoring opened in the third. Cole Hilliard led off the inning with a double to left center. Hilliard took third on a productive ground out to short by Colin Flynn, which put Suffolk's first baseman in prime scoring position as Alex Sorenti-Burns sauntered to the plate. The left fielder struck the ball to right field, Hilliard tagged up and sprinted in to give the Rams a 1-0 edge.

An extra-base hit helped the Saints two innings later. Luke Krull rocked a one-out double down the left field line and put on his running shoes for a single through the right side by Jake Schelon. Suffolk secured the second out of the stanza with a routine ground out to second. That out did move Schelon to second though. Harry Meehan found himself in a full-count jam with Damian Tamay at the dish. The south paw's composure came through as he fanned Tamay swinging to keep things even at one.

Things got interesting in the sixth.  With the bases full and two outs, Lampert faced a 1-1 count. The sophomore took the third pitch he saw yard to empty the bags and push Suffolk in front, 5-1.

The Saints responded to the Rams four runs with two of their own in the home half of the inning to trim the margin down to two, 5-3.

Schelon walked to get the bottom of the seventh underway and bring the game-tying run to the plate. The Rams defense backed up reliever Jack Raimo was Sam Armbruster gloved a pop up at short and turned a 643 double play to seal the doubleheader sweep.
