Baseball Picks Up Program-Best Four D3baseball.com All-Region Nods

D3baseball.com Release | Region II

BOSTON – Suffolk baseball had a program-record four student-athletes pick up All-Region recognition from D3baseball.com. Harry Painter headlined the foursome with a first-team nod as a utility, while Jonny GilbrideGarret Roberts and Alex Sorenti-Burns were named to the third team.

Painter collected his third consecutive all-region distinction from D3baseball.com. He is the second-ever Ram to do so, first since Brady Chant '18 threepeated from 2016 through 2018. Painter and Chant are the only Suffolk student-athletes to own multiple all-region nods from D3baseball.com in program history. Both players have three apiece. Gilbride, Roberts and Sorenti-Burns, meanwhile, all earned their first all-region accolade from the organization.

The four honorees in a single season marks a program record for the blue-and-gold, upstaging the previous mark of three, which was achieved twice, in back-to-back seasons, 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Since Suffolk earned its first D3baseball.com All-Region accolade in 2013, the Rams have gone on to receive 16 all-region accolades -- seven first-team, two second-team, six third-team and one honorable mention -- 14 of which have come under head coach Anthony Del Prete's guidance.

The 42 Region II student-athletes recognized represent 17 different programs, six of which hail from the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) in Endicott (9), Nichols (3), Western New England (2), Roger Williams (1) and Gordon (1).

More than 1,000 players were nominated by Sports Information Directors to the regional ballot, which is in its 12th year, and was distributed to coaching staffs and SIDs to vote for a predetermined number of players in their region. Players chosen to the D3baseball.com All-Region team are now eligible for All-American selection.

Painter proved to be a two-way player in his final season in blue-and-gold as he provided a team-high 62 hits at the plate and was the most effective starting pitcher on Suffolk's staff. On the mound, the right-hander from Essex, Massachusetts, assembled a 3.02 ERA en route to a 5-1 record on the bump. His hurling stat line featured a team-best 61 strikeouts in 44.2 innings of work. Offensively, he produced 62 knocks, which lands 10th on Suffolk's single-season list. Of that total, 28 were good for extra bases including 18 doubles, five triples and five bombs. The 18 doubles sit second on the Rams' single season list. He brought in 43 runs and scored 47 himself on a .350/.415/.593 slash line. The positional pitcher became the first known Ram in program history to have multiple 100-plus total base seasons, accomplishing the feat for the second time in his Suffolk career this year after hitting the mark in 2022.

Like Painter, Roberts was a positional pitcher as well, which led to his first all-region award. The right-handed pitcher took on the Rams' ace role this year. He saw the most innings on the mound for the blue-and-gold's staff with 60.1 under his belt over 13 outings, a dozen starts. He went 4-3 with one complete game and one save. The senior that calls Stratham, New Hampshire home sat down 47 hitters and put together a 5.22 ERA. At bat, he provided 52 hits, 34 RBI, and scored 44 runs on a .371 average.

Gilbride was an offensive force for Suffolk with 59 hits, 50 RBI and 41 runs scored. The shortstop from Beverly, Massachusetts became the second player in Suffolk's history to have 50-plus runs and RBI in the same season, first since Joe Duca in 2000. Additionally, he is the eighth Ram to send double digit hits (10) out of the park in a single campaign.

Sorenti-Burns, who brought his talents to Title Town after an undergraduate career at Worcester State, filled in any role necessary for Suffolk's line-up and secured an all-region nod as an outfielder. The Sagamore Beach, Massachusetts, native supplied 46 hits to the Rams' 40-hit, 348-run offense. The right-handed batter had 13 doubles, one triple and eight jacks to bring in 44 runs and score 39 himself. The graduate student walked 25 times and was hit by a pitch 26 for a .483 on-base percentage.

The group was instrumental to Suffolk's success this season that feature a regional ranking via NCAA.com, the best CCC ledger (9-5) in program history, the third seed in the CCC Tourney and a pair of CCC postseason wins for the first time.
