Baseball Handles Saint Joseph’s (Maine) with Offensive Outburst, 23-0

STANDISH, Maine – Suffolk baseball's bats came alive and Harry Painter threw a two-hit, three-walk, 12-strikeout, 8.0-inning gem as the Rams took care of Saint Joseph's (Maine) Sunday afternoon at Larry M. Diamond.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk put up lopsided numbers in the first and second to jump out to a comfortable 15-0 cushion. IN the first, the Rams batted around, and the bats of Max MartinPainter and Jonny Gilbride sent the ball over the fence. An inning later, Garret Roberts highlighted the offensive output with a grand slam. 

Two more Rams runs came in in the fourth to push the distance to 17-0. Colin Flynn led off with a walk and worked his way around on a base hit from Painter and back-to-back productive ground outs. Painter, meanwhile, scored on Alex Sorenti-Burnsdouble down the left field line.   

Sorenti-Burns joined the home run show with a two-run bomb in the top of the sixth to push the distance to 19-0.  

The Rams continued to pile on the runs with three more in the top of the seventh and another in the eight to push its advantage to 23-0, which remained at the final out.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Painter, who carried a no-hitter going into the eighth, registered a two-hit, three-hit, 12-strikeout effort in 8.0-inning effort. 
  • Ian Maude tossed a scoreless 1.0 inning of relief with one walk and a pair of punchouts. 
  • Logan Butkins gave up seven runs on five hits and one walk in 0.1 inning of work. 
  • Brendan McCaffrey (2 R, 2 H, 1 K, 0.2 IP), Victor Caira (5 R, 1 BB, 0.1 IP), Zack Adams (8 H, 8 R, 4 BB, 2 K, 5.2 IP) and Jack Moltenbrey (1 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2.0 IP) all came out of the pen for the Monks. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKINGB

  • At the plate, Painter went 3-for-4 with four RBI and four runs scored. One of the pitcher's hits went over the fence. 
  • Roberts put together a 3-for-5 effort with one jack. He brought in five runs and scored three himself. 
  • Gilbride notched four RBI on two hits, both of extra bases in one double and one dinger, to go along with two runs scored. 
  • Sorenti-Burns registered four RBI behind a 3-for-6 effort. All three of his hits were good for extra bases with a pair of doubles and one bomb. He scored two runs. 
  • Max Martin added a 2-for-4 effort with a double and homer. He brought in three runs and scored three. 
  • Max Iorio tallied three runs and one hit. 
  • Flynn supplied four runs, one hit, one RBI and two walks. 
  • Sam Armbruster pitched in one hit and one run. 
  • Cole Hilliard tallied one run and Noah Greco notched one hit.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk improved to 25-30 all-time against Saint Joseph's (Maine). 
  • Suffolk is now 10-6 versus the Monks in the Anthony Del Prete era. 
  • The blue-and-gold battled SJC in Maine for the first time since April 28, 2019. 
  • The Rams defeated the Monks in Maine for the first time since April 22, 2017. 
  • The shutout was first in the series between Suffolk and SJC since a 10-0 Suffolk win May 7, 2016. 
  • There have been nine shutouts in the all-time series between Suffolk and the Monks.

  • Roberts (4), Gilbride (7), Sorenti-Burns (7), Painter (1) and Max Martin all knocked a homer. 
  • Roberts slugged a grand slam. He is the second Ram to do so this season, first since Iorio did so in a 16-7 win at Western New England April 14, 2024. 
  • Roberts brought in a career-high five runs. 
  • Gilbride stretched his hit streak to 14 games. In that span he has 24 hits with seven doubles, one triple and four homers. 
  • Sorenti-Bruns tied a personal-best in RBI (4), hits (3), and total bases (8) and set a new career-high in doubles (2). 
  • Iorio matched a personal-best in runs scored (3) and walks (3). 
  • Max Martin tied a career-high in hits (2), with his first homer as a Ram, and RBI (3). He set a new personal-best in runs scored (3).
  • Flynnn scored a career-high four times and tied a personal-best two walks. 
  • Painter fanned a career-high 12 batters. 
  • The 12 strikeouts are the most for a Suffolk pitcher since Mitch Monke sat down a dozen batters in a 16-3, seven-inning win over Norwich April 10, 2011. 
  • Painter extended his hit streak to seven games. He has multiple hits in each game in that span. He has 18 hits in the last seven games including five doubles, two triples and one homer. 
  • Greco had the first hit of his collegiate career.
