BOSTON – The sixth-seeded Suffolk baseball team takes its talents to fifth seed Western New England Thursday, May 11 for an elimination game of the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.

SUFFOLK IN THE CCC TOURNAMENT

  • The Rams are in the program's third trip and third in as many years to the CCC Tournament. 
  • Suffolk is 2-5 in the CCC postseason. 
  • Both of the blue-and-gold's victories in the CCC Tourney have come in the Play-In Game, as the sixth seed, and over Gordon. 
  • Suffolk is battling in the CCC Tournament as part of the seven-team field for the second time in program history and second time in as many years. Both trips have been as the sixth seed. 
  • Suffolk is 2-3 as the sixth seed in the CCC Tournament. 
  • The Rams have yet to win a contest in the double-elimination bracket of the CCC Tournament, 0-3. 
  • Suffolk and Western New England will meet in the CCC playoffs for the second time. The Rams and Golden Bears tangled in the elimination game a year ago. WNE prevailed, 13-5.  
  • Suffolk is 0-5 when playing a CCC Tournament game on the road.  

GET TO KNOW THE GOLDEN BEARS
Western New England fell to Salve Regina, 10-7, in its opening game of the CCC Tournament yesterday to move to 24-14-2 on the year.  

CJ Willis has been the most productive at the plate for the Golden Bears with 64 hits, 52 RBI and 38 runs scored on a .383/.465/.701 slash line. Paul Villecco (46, 34 RBI, 49 R), Aaron Cole (40 H, 25 RBI, 38 R) and Cody Waterbury (48 H, 37 RBI, 30 R) have surpassed 40-plus hits as well to been consistent contributors to WNE's offense.

On the bump, the Golden Bears are likely to call upon Kevin Hummer. Over 60.2 innings pitched, he has put together a 3.12 ERA with 43 strikeouts. Jacob Hobart (5.10 ERA, 47.2 IP, 36 K) and Jared Kuryan (3.55 ERA, 50.2 IP, 47 K) are well rested for WNE as well.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk holds a 20-21 all-time series lead over Western New England. 
  • Suffolk is 2-9 in the Anthony Del Prete era against WNE. 
  • Suffolk looks for its first win over the Golden Bears since a 16-2, seven-inning decision in game two fo the 2022 regular-season doubleheader April 23, 2022.
