Baseball Takes Game 2 Over Curry, 7-3

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk baseball capped off its regular season scheduled with a 7-3 game two triumph over Curry Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

SCORE: Suffolk 7 | Curry 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (12-20, 6-10 CCC) | Curry (10-27, 4-12 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 1-0 after three innings, back-to-back triples gave Suffolk a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Jonny Gilbride led off with a single up the middle and scored the tying-run thanks to Harry Painter's triple to right center. Joe Ward traded places with the Rams' third baseman with a triple of his own to the same spot to give the host the advantage. Timothy McCarthy and Michael Cole brought in one run apiece on a base hit and sac fly, respectively, to pad Suffolk's cushion to 4-1.

The Colonels threatened in the fifth as they put all the ducks in the pond. With one out, Marc Birbiglia dove to make a catch for the second out, which kept Curry's runners put. Ryan Goonan put the ball into play that Jonny Gilbride scooped up for an assisted play with McCarthy at second. The runner was called safe cut Suffolk's lead to two, 4-2.

A solo shot by Curry's Conor Hankon in the sixth trimmed the margin down to one, 4-3.

Insurance came for Suffolk in the bottom of the sixth. It was déjà vu from the third as McCarthy and Cole collected an RBI each on singles. Two batters later, Garret Roberts racked up an RBI of his own on a sac fly that pushed the Rams ahead, 7-3.

After Luke Harder retired the side in the seventh, Pierce Salbego came in to shove the eighth and ninth. The sophomore allowed just one base runner in each to preserve the victory and series sweep for Suffolk.
