EAST BOSTON – Suffolk baseball used a complete-game from George Breslin and an inside the park homer off Luke Harder's bat to hand Curry a 5-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference loss Saturday at East Boston Memorial Park.
THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 5 | Curry 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-20, 5-10 CCC) | Curry (10-26, 4-11 CCC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
A pair of fielding mishaps allowed Curry to take a two-run lead in the second. Luke Harder took matters into his own hands to erase the deficit. With the bases loaded, the senior outfielder barreled a deep ball to right center. He not only cleared the bags to push the Rams in front, but put his running shoes on to make it a in the park homer and give Suffolk a 4-2 lead.
The Colonels chipped down the deficit with one run in the fifth. A Rams' response came in the home half of the inning. Marc Birbiglia wore a pitch to get the inning going, advanced to second when Joe Ward walked, and the pair moved over thanks to a perfectly placed sac bunt by Timothy McCarthy. Corey Frassica collected an RBI on a sac fly to right to restore the two-run gap.
Suffolk's defense backed up Breslin too hold Curry scoreless over the next four frames and preserve the 5-3 win for the Rams.
