Baseball Tripped Up at Gordon, 6-3

WENHAM, Mass. – A three-run eighth-inning by Gordon handed Suffolk baseball a 6-3 Commonwealth Coast Conference loss Wednesday afternoon at J. Tec White Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Gordon 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (10-20, 4-10 CCC) | Gordon (12-24, 4-10 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Down one after the first frame, Harry Painter's solo shot in the fourth leveled the playing field at 1-all.

Timothy McCarthy brought in a run on a base hit an inning later to push Suffolk in front. Marc Birbiglia led off the fifth inning with a walk and stole second to get into scoring position in time for McCarthy's RBI single.

Gordon evened matters up in the sixth inning before A Hartman's lead off dinger to right field regained the lead for the Fighting Scots in the bottom of the seventh.

Suffolk stranded the tying run in the top of the eighth and Gordon's bats came alive in the home half of the inning to put the blue-and-gold in a 6-2 hole as the game headed to the top of the ninth.

With two outs and runners in the corners, McCarthy came up big for the Rams once again. The senior singled to left to bring in Garret Roberts, who reached on a single of his own. Jonny Gilbride wore a pitch to put the tying run on, but Luke Harder grounded out to short, which sealed the setback for Suffolk.
