Baseball Topples Lasell in Eight Innings, 13-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Half of Suffolk baseball's 14 hits were good for extra bases including three homers en route to a 13-3, eight-inning non-conference victory over Lasell Thursday night.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 13 | Lasell 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-12) | Lasell (13-10)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 1-0 after the first inning, Sam Armbruster's first collegiate dinger, a solo shot to left, leveled the playing field at 1-all.

The Lasers leaped ahead by one again in the bottom of the third, before the Rams bats exploded for a seven-run fourth. Luke Harder led off with a double to left field before Armbruster wore a pitch. One out later, Jonny Gilbride cleared the bags with a double to center. After Max Iorio walked, Lasell made a change on the bump. Reliever Jason Giangrande managed to get the second out of the inning, before Harry Painter and Marc Birbiglia each collected one RBI on back-to-back base hits. With three ducks in the pond, Joe Ward barreled a bomb to right to clear the bags and push Suffolk in front, 8-2.

In the fifth, Iorio's double to left field plated Gilbride, who wore a pitch, to extend the edge to seven. Lasell managed to make up that lone run in the home half of the sixth, however, to restore the six-run margin, 9-3.

Iorio stepped up again for the Rams in the seventh as the sophomore slugged a homer to right field to push the blue-and-gold back in front by seven, 10-3.

After a shutdown inning by George Breslin, Suffolk scored three more in the top of the eighth to turn on the mercy-rule. The runs came in on a sac fly by Glibride, Iorio's second two-bagger of the day and an erratic pitch.

Harder came in to wrap up the win for the Rams and threw a shutdown inning to seal the run-rule victory.
