Roger Williams Runs Past Baseball in Game One

BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams put up multiple runs in every inning, but two, to hand Suffolk baseball a 16-1, seven-inning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) loss in game one of a league twinbill Sunday at Paolino Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk found itself chasing five after the Hawks had four runs in the first and one in the second. 

The Rams got on the board in the top of the third as Max Iorio's double down the right field line scored Marc Birbiglia, who led off with a single through the right side.

The Hawks responded with two runs in the home half of the inning to pad their advantage to 7-1.  

After a scoreless fourth, Roger Williams registered five runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth to turn on the mercy-rule.  

Suffolk went down in order in the seventh for the 16-1 final. 

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Garret Roberts suffered the setback after giving up seven runs, three earned, on one hit and eight walks with four strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work. 
  • Pierce Salbego (5 R, 7 H, 4 BB, 2 K) and Michael James Jr. (4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K) both came out of the pen for 1.2 inning of relief. 
  • Jack Maynard tossed some relief work as well for the Rams. 
  • Dan Massaro logged the win behind a one-run, four-hit, one-walk, 10-strikeout, complete-game effort. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Harry Painter was responsible for half of Suffolk's four hits as he went 2-for-3 with one double. 
  • Iorio brought in Suffolk's lone run on his only hit, a double. 
  • Birbiglia recorded one hit and scored the Rams' run.
