Baseball, Plymouth State Halted in Bottom 4 Tied 3-3

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Suffolk baseball's showdown with Plymouth State Sunday was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain with the teams tied at 4-4 at Socastee High School. The Rams and Panthers may pick up where they left off later this week.

To get to the 3-3 stalemate, Plymouth State pounced first as it put two runs on the board in the top of the first behind two hits and three walks.

The Rams responded in the home half of the inning to flip the script in its favor, 3-2. Jonny Gilbride started things off with a single to left center and Garret Roberts followed suit with a walk. Gilbride advanced to third on a fielder's choice during Harry Painter's at bat and Joe Ward sacrificed himself to put the blue-and-gold on the board with a long out to right. An overthrow by the Panthers short stop Jackson Curtis put a pair of Rams in scoring position. Luke Harder collected an RBI with a single to short to even things up at 2-all, before Nick Healy overthrew second on Harder's steal, which allowed the go ahead run come in.

Two innings later the Panthers evened things up with a bases loaded walk.

After a scoreless fourth, Caleb Piwnicki retired the side to set up Suffolk's turn at the plate. Timothy McCarthy and Corey Frassica opened the innings with base hits before the game was halted due to rain.

The Rams turn their attention to the meeting with Mt. Aloysius tomorrow, Monday, March 13 at 3:30 p.m. at Griffith Field.
