Baseball Represented by Six Rams on All-CCC Teams

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – In its first year competing in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, Suffolk baseball saw six student-athletes garner All-CCC accolades, the league office announced this afternoon.

Tim Brigham and Christian Seariac highlighted the group with first-team nods, pitchers Steven Rossi and EJ Birch sealed up spots on the second squad with Blase Cormier and Rich Gilbride rounding out the group on the third team.

Seariac was a helpful addition to the Rams' line-up. The grad transfer from MCLA helped all over defensively, playing both in the outfield and at second base, and quickly proved himself as one of the most productive bats not just for Suffolk, but amongst the CCC hitters. The left-hander led the conference in batting average (.477) and on-base percentage (.545) with his .662 slugging percentage inside the top ten as well at ninth, while his team-best 31 hits sat seventh. Seariac had identical amounts of RBI and runs scored with 13, respectively, both of which ranked second on the Suffolk squad. The all-league recognition although his first as a Ram marks the second of his collegiate career as he picked up a second-team All-MASCAC nod during his four-year career in North Adams, Massachusetts.

Brigham brought in his second all-league accolade, both of which were first-team picks, thanks in large part due to his knack for barreling extra-base hits. Of his 30 hits, which were good for second on the squad, 16 of them were good for extra bases including a league-best 13 doubles. The Cape Elizabeth, Maine native brought in a team-high 16 runs and scored 16 runs himself.

Rossi proved himself as Suffolk's go-to starter on the bump. The Corning, New York, local started all six games he appeared in. Over 36.0 innings, the right-handed wing assembled a 3.75 ERA and sat down 31 batters en route to his first all-league accolade.

Birch secured the first all-conference honor of his collegiate career for his effort out of the pen. The right-handed hurler was critical in the Rams' CCC doubleheader regular-season sweep of the Gulls April 7, saving both battles. Two games later, he preserved a non-league bout with Salve Regina as well to end the year with a trio of saves, good for second in the league. Overall, the junior made seven appearances on the hill, with three starts and finished with a 2-1 record. In 24.0 innings of work he fanned 20 batters for a 3.00 ERA.

Cormier was contribute to Suffolk's offensive and held down first base to collect his third all-conference honor. The Rams' clean-up hitter chipped in 27 hits and eight RBI on a .321/.418/.369 slash line. He added 16 runs scored, which tied Brigham for top on the team.

Gilbride capped of his collegiate career at Suffolk with his third all-conference honor. After seeing his senior season cancelled a year ago he recorded 22 hits, 10 runs scored and six RBI.

Suffolk's six standouts helped the blue-and-gold secure a spot in the CCC Tournament in its first year in the conference. The Rams fell in the POD Finals to Endicott to end their year 11-12 overall.
