Baseball Clips Curry, 3-0, in Five Innings

MILTON, Mass. – Suffolk baseball blanked Curry in the first five innings and managed to get three runs on the board prior to the game being called due to heavy rain storms to take a 3-0 shutout win over the Colonels Wednesday afternoon at Jack Vallely Diamond.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Curry 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (8-8) | Curry (3-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED
To open the action the Rams traded outs with hits with the second knock of the day producing the first Suffolk score. Tim Brigham doubled to center field to bring in Rich Gilbride, who singled to center and moved into scoring position on Blase Cormier's ground out to second.

After a 15-minute rain delay, the score hit a stand still until the fifth frame. A. Diaz took over for J. Persechin on the hill and the Rams wasted no time to get their offense going. Joe Rufo drew a base on balls to lead off and reached second thanks to Luke Harder's unassisted ground out to first. Rufo then cruised in on Gilbride's single to left field.

A stolen base and one out later, GIlbride waited on second during Brigham's at bat. For the second time on the day Brigham would plate Gilbride, this time with a single through the right side to extend the blue-and-gold's advantage to 3-0.

The Colonels threated in the home half of the fifth as free bases, two walks and one hit by pitch, put runners on every bag with one out. Shawn Nosky came up with a huge punchout as he fanned Ryan Goonan looking for the second out of the inning before Rich Giandrea converted an assisted, force out play at third to keep the host off the board.

Playing conditions became too harsh with the rainy weather and the umpires declared the game with five-innings completed.
