LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk baseball spoiled Salve Regina's perfect season with a bounce-back 4-1 game two win over the Seahawks Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park. RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk split its twinbill with Salve Regina last Sunday, April 8 to move to 6-4 on the year. The Rams ride momentum of its 4-1 nightcap win over the Seahawks into the midweek matchup.
Upperclassmen propel the Rams at the plate this season. Tim Brigham sits atop the team in hits (14) and RBI (6) with nine of his 14 hits good for extra bases, including eight double. Rich Gilbride and Blase Cormier have each provided 10 hits. The latter has scored nine times and brought in four runs, while the former has three RBI and six runs scored.
Suffolk's staff has combined for a 3.77 ERA. The Rams usual starting rotation will likely be on rest for the weekend with a bullpen day likely Wednesday. The blue-and-gold may call upon Caleb Piwnicki (4.1 IP, 2.08 ERA, 5 Ks), Shawn Nosky (2.1 IP, 3.86 ERA, 1 K) and CJ Barrett (1.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 1 K). EJ Birch (8.2 IP, 2.08 ERA, 8 Ks) has proven to be Suffolk's closer as of late and may come in to do just that again on Wednesday.
SEAHAWKS SAYINGS
Salve Regina was handed its first setback since May 2, 2019 when the Rams defeated the Seahawks, 4-1, Sunday, to move the team to 7-1-1 on the year.
Four different hitters have supplied double-digit hits led by Anthony Cieszko's and Matt D'Amato's 13. Cieszko has scored a team-high nine runs and brought in seven himself, while D'Amato has eight RBI and seven runs scored. Sean O'Malley has brought in the most runs on the squad with nine RBI to his credit off 10 hits to go with five runs scored. Dylan Ketch rounds out the group with 12 hits.
Similar to Suffolk, Salve Regina may rely on its bullpen to make it through the nine-inning tilt. Overall, the Seahawks 16 arms have combined for an impressive 2.19 ERA with 88 strikeouts scattered over 70.0 innings.
INSIDE THE SERIES
- Suffolk split its double feature with Salve Regina on Sunday to move to 13-7 all-time in the series.
- The Rams look to take down the Seahawks in back-to-back battles for the first time since taking a victory over Salve Regina in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, respectively.
SUFFOLK'S SCHEDULE
