Greenville Bests Baseball in Game 2, 7-3

LEESBURG, Fla. – Suffolk baseball lost to Greenville, 7-3, in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Pat Thomas Stadium. With the win the Panthers swept the twinbill at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Greenville 7
RECORDS: Suffolk (4-5) | Greenville (4-8-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was 1-0 Suffolk after the first as Logan Heckman opened the game with a bunt for a base hit and came in two batters later behind Blase Cormier's single up the middle.

An inning and a half later Greenville grabbed a 3-1 edge on a two-hit, two-error bottom of the second.

The Rams made up one run in the top of the third when Rich Gilbride, who doubled to left field and advanced to third on a passed ball, ran in on Cormier's ground out to second.

Greenville restored the multi-run advantage with a pair in the home half of the inning and pushed the cushion to 7-2 in their next time at the plate.

A scoreless sixth was followed by a one-run sixth for Suffolk. Gilbride led off the inning with a double to left center, moved to third on Tim Brigham's fly out to left and scored on Luke Harder's pop up to left.

That run sliced the margin to four, but the Panthers did not let the Rams score another run the rest of the way to keep the score the same.
