STANDISH, Maine – Suffolk baseball bounced back from a game one set back to Saint Joseph's (Maine) with a 3-1 game two victory over the Monks Sunday night at Larry Maheny Diamond. The win locked up the 2019 GNAC regular season title and the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament for the Rams.

HOW IT HAPPENED
All three of Suffolk's runs came in the third after a back-and-forth pitcher's duel kept zeros on the board through two complete frames. With two down, Rich Gilbride kept the inning going with a walk before Trevor Lee out ran a bunt to put runners on first and second. Blase Cormier and Will Hopkins each brought one run as the sophomore each struck singles up the middle apiece before back-to-back passed balls advanced the pair 180-feet each, scoring Cormier in the process, to make it a 3-0 Suffolk score.  

Things remained that way as Kevin Sinatra shoved to keep the Monks scoreless.  

St. Joe's looked to make moves in the seventh as Drew Healey sparked a comeback with a lead-off base hit, moved over on a ground out an error during pinch hitter's Kevin Aylward's at bat. Sinatra quieted SJC as he fanned R Chisholm looking for the second out of the stanza and Cormier clinched the win by grabbing Hunter Richardson's pop up.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

• Sinatra went the distance on the bump for Suffolk. The senior improves to 5-3 on the year with a one-run, five-hit, five-strikeout, complete-game effort. 
• Matt Bergeron suffered the setback after giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and one walk over 3.2 innings. 
• George Welch came out of the pen for the Monks. In 1.1 innings, he let up one hit and one walk with one strikeout. 
• Weston Bergeron (1 BB, 1 K) and Jonathan Marchia each threw one inning for the hosts.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Suffolk's five hits came off five different bats: Gilbride, Lee, Cormier, Hopkins and Rich Giandrea. 
• Cormier, Gilbride and Lee all scored one run for the Rams. 
• Cormier and Hopkins both provided one RBI. 
• Ben Isaak registered one sac bunt.  

NOTEWORTHY

• For the second straight season, second time under Anthony Del Prete, and seventh time overall Suffolk won the GNAC regular season title. 
• Suffolk is the GNAC Regular Season in back-to-back campaigns for the first-time in program history. 
• The Rams' 14-2 league ledger marks the most conference wins in Del Prete's guidance. 
• Sinatra put together his sixth complete-game of the season.
