Fog Ends Baseball’s Game Early, Rams Fall at JWU, 3-1, in Five

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Fog rolled in and covered the outfield of Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex and the umpires called the game with Suffolk baseball trailing Johnson & Wales, 3-1. With five frames complete, the Wildcats picked up the winning decision Saturday evening.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Johnson & Wales 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (18-11-1, 11-1 GNAC) | Johnson & Wales (18-10, 8-2 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A solo shot by Colby Greenhalgh broke open the scoring for the hosts in the home half of the third and an inning later the Wildcats padded their advantage with a pair of runs to put the Rams in a 3-0 hole.

Suffolk began to make up the ground in the fifth. With two outs, an error by JWU's shortstop Joe Maracic kept the inning alive and put Rich Gilbride on first. Suffolk's short moved over on Trevor Lee's single to center and came in on the Wildcats' second error of the inning to trim the margin to two, 3-1.

The Rams kept the Wildcats quiet in the fifth and looked to continue to comeback in the sixth, but the game entered a fog delay it never would come out of and the 3-1 decision stood in JWU's favor.
