BOSTON – In a week full of accolades and acknowledgements, Worth Walrod put an exclamation point on the list as the Suffolk baseball senior was named NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Week by the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the Week of April 1-7. 

Walrod tossed a no-hitter in the opening game of April 7's GNAC double-dip with Anna Maria. The southpaw matched his career-high with 10 strikeouts and needed 111 pitches to become the first Suffolk hurler to pitch a no-no since Jhonneris Mendez did so seven years earlier to the day in a 3-0 win over Lasell. 

Walrod followed in Mendez' footsteps, quite literally as the Dedham, Massachusetts, native became the second-ever Suffolk Ram to be honored as the best pitcher on a national scale since Mendez was the first to pick up the feat after his own no-no in 2012. 

The accolade is added to a lengthy list from the past week for the lefty, who was also named GNAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and earned a place on D3Baseball.com's Team of the Week. 

In 2019, Walrod has garnered four weekly awards, three this week alone, to bring his career total to six. 

Walrod and the Rams turn their attention back to conference competition this weekend when they head to Providence, Rhode Island for a twinbill with Johnson & Wales. Game one is scheduled for a 12 p.m. first pitch.
