EAST BOSTON - Suffolk baseball landed on the wrong side of a 9-2 decision in its home opener as Salve Regina defeated the Rams in non-conference action Wednesday night at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the top of the second Michael DeFusco got caught in the rundown between first and second, which allowed Colton Eremain, who was hanging out on the third, score the first run of the day. The damage was kept at one as the Rams successfully caught DeFusco for the final out of the frame.

Two innings later a two-run shot over the right field fence from Tristan Dacey pushed the Seahawks lead to three. The visitors used the dinger as momentum and continued to pile up the two-out hits to bring in three more runs and put the Rams in a 6-0 hole.

Suffolk erased the shutout in the home half of the fifth behind a one-run single from Tim Brigham that scored Ben Isaak, who led of the inning with a base hit to third, to cut the margin to five.

Another two-out, run rally came for Salve Regina in the seventh as a bases loaded hit by pitch began a three-run stretch that gave the visitors a 9-1 advantage with 6.5 innings in the book.

Down eight as the game transitioned to the bottom of the night, the Rams capitalized on a two-out bobble by the Seahawks left fielder Vincent Sorrentino to bring a run. It would not be enough, however, as Sorrentino made the play on a fly out two batters later to lock up the 9-2 win for Salve Regina.

PITCHERS PICTURE

• Kevin Sinatra suffered his first setback of the set season after giving up six runs on eight hits and two walks despite fanning five hitters.

• Ryan Garton shoved 2.0 innings of scoreless relief with one hit allowed and two strikeouts to his credit.

• George Breslin orked 1.1 frames of scoreless and hitless action.

• Robert Shaw came out of the pen as well for ⅔ of an inning.

• Jacob Simon picked up the win for the Seahawks after a one-run, two-hit, one-walk, one-strikeout effort in 1.0 inning of relief work.

• Michael Viveiros earned the nod on the hill and shoved 3.0 scoreless innings, limiting Suffolk to a pair of hits and one walk.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Brigham had a 2-for-4 day at the dish with the Rams' lone RBI to his credit.

• Isaak had a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and scored one of Suffolk's two runs.

• Joe Rufo was responsible for one run.

• Zack Aresty, Blase Cormier and Rich Giandrea pitched in one hit each.

NOTEWORTHY

• Isaak matched a career-high two hits.

• Brigham extended his hit streak to three straight games and had his seventh multi-hit game of the year.
