Juniata Slips Past Baseball, 2-1, in Game 2

KISSIMMEE, Fla.  - Suffolk baseball fell in the nightcap to Juniata, 2-1, Thursday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles edge came early on as a pair of doubles gave Juniata a 1-0 lead in the home half of the first.

Suffolk looks to play catch-up and had its chances with the bases chucked in the second, and two base runners in the third, but the Eagles kept the blue-and-gold off the board.

In the bottom of the fourth, Sam Craigh's solo shot stretch Juniata's advantage to two.

The Rams made up ground in the top of the fifth when Logan Heckman's sac fly scored Tim Brigham, who reached on a walk, to slice the margin in half.

Juniata kept Suffolk there however, as Jon Janocko came in to shove and limited the Rams chances in the sixth and seventh, respectively, to hang onto the victory.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • George Breslin suffered the setback on the hill after allowing two runs on seven hits and five walks with one strikeout to his credit over 5.0 innings of action.

  • Parker Browne came out of the pen for 1.0 frame of relief work, which he held the Eagles to one hit and one walk.

  • Jack Johnson earned the victory with a one-run, six-hit, four-walk, two-strikeout effort in 5.0 innings.

  • Janocko secured the save behind one-hit, one-walk, 2.0-inning performance.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Brigham and Rich Giandrea each had two-hit days at the dish. The former scored Suffolk's lone run.

  • Rich Gilbride, Heckman and Zack Aresty each had one hit to their credits.

  • Gilbride stole one bag.

  • Shane Lake and Heckman provided a sac and a sac fly, respectively.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Breslin made his first collegiate start and appearance on the rubber.
