Baseball Rebounds in Game 2, Defeats Anna Maria, 7-3

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – After falling in walk-off fashion to open the doubleheader, the Suffolk baseball team bounced back in the nightcap, besting Anna Maria, 7-3, Tuesday night at the New England Baseball Complex.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 7, Anna Maria 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (12-15, 6-1 GNAC) | Anna Maria (11-19, 2-6 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk at least one run in the second through sixth inning and limited Anna Maria's chance to secure the game two victory and GNAC split with the AMCATS.

The Rams got on the scoreboard first after a scoreless first frame as Rich Gibride's single to center field scored Blasé Cormier, who recorded a single of his own.

The teams traded runs in the second stanza as Suffolk used Will Hopkins triple to left center that brought in Trevor Lee, who reached on a walk, to maintain its one-run edge after three complete innings.

In the fourth, Tim Brigham went yard over the cent fielder fence and brought Cormier in in the process to stretch Suffolk's lead to 4-1.

Another pair of Rams runners came in in the fifth to give Suffolk a 6-1 cushion. Lee wore a pitch to start things off and used Brady Chant's double to left center to come in. Chant moved to third on Hopkins' walk and a hit-by-pitch that loaded the bases. The senior centerfield scored thanks to pinch hitters Tommy Shimchak's sac fly.

Suffolk's final run of the night was thanks to Hopkins' single that brought in Steven Shamnoski, who reached on a single of his own.

With the Rams up 7-1, Anna Maria scored twice in the home half of the seventh to trim the margin to four, 7-3, but could not get any closer as Suffolk held onto the win.
