BOSTON – Coming off a series split with then-No. 1/3 UMass Boston, the Suffolk baseball team closes out the week with four games over three days. The Rams stop by Salve Regina and MIT March 29 and March 30, respectively, before heading to Western New England for a double feature Saturday, March 31.

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk baseball team got an early edge and held onto it to successfully down then No. 1/3 UMass Boston in game two of the twinbill March 24 at Monan Park.

RAMS RUNDOWN
With its split with the Beacons, Suffolk moved to 4-8 on the season and uses its next week and a half of contests to prep for its GANC title defense. 

Brady Chant continues to be the backbone of Suffolk's lineup. The senior centerfielder is the lone Ram hitting over .400 coming in at .413 with a team-leading numbers in hits (19), doubles (4), RBI (8), runs scored (10). Chant's classmate and fellow outfielder Seth Coiley is second on the squad with a .366 batting average behind 15 hits, four RBI and five runs scored. Freshman Will Hopkins rounds out the top three threats at the dish as the outfielder has recorded 10 hits for a pair of RBI and scored six runs. 

Charles Batchelder has emerged as one of Suffolk's top threats on the hill. The junior RHP holds a 0.86 ERA in three starts and 21.0 innings of work with a team-high 10 strikeouts. Seniors Mark Fusco (1.93 ERA, 2 Starts, 14.0 IP) and Ryan Pordes (13.2 IP, 2 Starts) match Batchelder's punch outs with 10 apiece. Junior Kevin Sinatra, the lone southpaw on the Rams' staff, holds a 3.50 era with 8 Ks through 18.0 innings is also a top starter for the blue-and-gold on the rubber.

SEAHAWKS SAYINGS
Salve Regina went 4-6 over its Spring Break trip and recently dropped its northern opener at Trinity to slip to 4-7 on the season. Before the Seahawks hosts the Rams Thursday, they will entertain the Framingham State Rams Wednesday afternoon. 

Zack Smith is the only every day starter hitting over .400 with a .414 average on 12 hits for three RBI to go along with seven runs scored. Alex Perry, who hits .390, sits atop the team with 16 hits, six for extra bases, and 11 RBI, while scoring seven runs himself. 

Patrick Maybech is the Seahawks ace as the sophomore arms boasts a 0.98 era in four starts and 27.2 innings with an impressive 38 strikeouts. Zach Dionne is the only other hurler with multiple starts as the sophomore has two nods with 8.0 innings of work under his belt with eight Ks to his credit. Will Ginsberg is also of note on the hill for Salve as the junior owns a 1.52 ERA with one starter and 11.2 innings of action with 13 strikeouts.

EYES ON THE ENIGEERS
A two-game skid put MIT at 4-5 after falling to Saint Joseph's (Maine), 9-5) and Clark (8-4). The Engineers will battle Endicott Thursday, March 29 prior to hosting Suffolk Friday, March 30. 

Garrett Greenwood holds MIT's leading bat as the senior, who hits .350, good for second on the squad, has a team-best 14 hits for five RBI to go along with eight runs scored. Ethan Rolland, meanwhile, is one hit shy of Greenwood's team-leading 14 with 13 on a team-high .371 batting average. The freshman infielder has brought in seven runs and scored four himself. 

Greenwood also paces the starting pitchers with a 2.31 ERA in two starts. Through his 11.2 innings of work, the senior arm has 11 strikeouts. Patrick Callahan has got the nod in three times on the young season. The junior boasts a 4.38 ERA in 12.1 frames with 10 Ks, while relief pitcher Adam Katz holds a team-best 13 strikeouts in 10.2 innings.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Suffolk and MIT will meet for the first time since 2016 when the Engineers snuck past the Rams, 5-4, in Eastie. Overall, the Rams have taken on their Cambridge neighbor 58 times as the series is one of the oldest in Suffolk's 71-year history. The Rams trails the all-time series 24-34.

GET TO KNOW THE GOLDEN BEARS
Western New England put together a program-best Spring Break trip and are back north with a 9-3 record. The Golden Bears, who are ranked seventh in the initial NEIBA poll of the 2018 season, will take on No. 5 UMass Boston prior to hosting the Rams in doubleheader Saturday. 

Juniors Alex Loparco and Joe Casella are the biggest threats at the dish. Loparco has put together an impressive performance at the plate with a slash line of .537/.623/.707 on 22 hits with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. Casella, meanwhile, owns 16 hits on thanks to a .364 batting average with 14 RBI. 

On the mound, Western New England has used a variety of arms through its 12 contests. The Golden Bears most experienced starters are Jake Kawiecki (3 Starts, 16.0 IP, 5.06 ERA, 20 Ks) and Paul Wetmore (4 Starts, 19.1 IP, 5.12 ERA, 22 Ks).

WEEKLY ACCOLADES
For the second week in a row, Suffolk baseball's Charles Batchelder was dominant on the mound. And for the second straight week his performance earned him GNAC Corvias Pitcher of the Week. Joining the junior RHP with weekly recognition from the league is freshman outfielder Will Hopkins, who picked up his second GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week nod of the season.

ON DECK
Suffolk will use back-to-back non-conference tilts versus Endicott (April 4) and at Nichols (April 5) to prep for GNAC action, which is set to begin next weekend at Albertus Magnus Saturday, April 7.
