BOSTON – One day removed from putting up the most runs in NCAA Division III this season, the Suffolk baseball team is back in action at Rhode Island College on Marathon Monday, before entertaining Western New England at East Boston Memorial Park Tuesday, April 18. Both nine-inning games are scheduled for 4 p.m. first pitches.

The Suffolk baseball team ran its GNAC win streak to eight games as the Rams put on an offensive showing in a 36-2 victory over Anna Maria Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk won five of its six games last week, outscoring its opponents 94-32, including back-to-back 30-plus run games, to improve to 15-7 on the season and remain unbeaten (8-0) against conference competition.

Along the way, the Rams scored the most runs in a game across NCAA DIII this season with a 36-2 win over Anna Maria. That win featured 12 doubles by Suffolk, which ties the NCAA DIII record by a team with the blue-and-gold becoming the first squad to hit 12 doubles since 2011. 

The Rams' numbers at the plate have slid into the top three of the league with the second-best batting average (.322), on-base percentage (.431) and slugging percentage (.469). Suffolk's third-most hits (245) have produced the second-highest number of RBI (189) and scored the second-most runs (205) across the conference. 

Rams are sprinkled all over the GNAC's individual top 10 statistical categories. Suffolk's most consistent bat of Seth Coiley sits second in the league, hitting .456, with the top on-base percentage of the conference at .584. His 26 hits have plated 18 runs with the junior outfielder scoring 16 himself. Brady Chant, meanwhile, owns not only the best numbers on the squad, but in the conference, in runs (28), hits (37), triples (9) and total bases (67) to go along with 22 RBI thanks to a .374 average and .677 slugging percentage.  Kevin Belskie (.377/.484/.506, 29 H, 22 RBI, 19 R), Kevin Higgins (.271/.297/.429, 19 H, 21 RBI, 12 R), Matt Brenner (.321/.465/.466, 25 H, 20 RBI, 23 R) and Luke Ronchi (.349/.423/.430, 30 H, 19 RBI, 23 R) all provide sparks in Suffolk's line-up. 

Suffolk's staff boasts the best ERA in the league at 4.09 and holds the best batting average against at .266.Three Rams arms sit in the top 10 in ERA with Mark Fusco's 0.78 leading the way. Through 23.0 innings and two starts, the junior has 14 strikeouts and a 3-2 record. Chuck Gibson comes in in fourth in the league ERA standings with a 1.99 through 31.2 innings of work, which featured 24 Ks. Ryan Pordes rounds out the trio with a 3.44 ERA seeing the most action for the Rams (34.0 innings) and fanning 23 hitters. 

A BIT BOUT THE ANCHORMEN
Rhode Island has dropped its last three games to slid to 12-12 on the season.

Five everyday Anchormen starters are hitting above .300 with Austin Barry's .378 average leading the way. Off 31 hits, he has produced 22 RBI and scored 22 runs. Frank Pettinato is second on the squad, hitting .347 for nine RBI off 26 hits to go with 10 runs scored.

Erry Baldayac brings in the best ERA (2.82) of RIC's staff through 22.1 frames with 27 strikeouts. PJ Watson has seen the most action on the bump, working 35.0 innings for a 5.40 ERA, sitting down 21 hitters. Daniel Greaves, who has an ERA of 7.96, has fanned the most batters of the Anchormen's hurlers (28).
