AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Suffolk baseball team pounded out 18 hits en route to a 14-2 seven-inning victory over Ripon Wednesday afternoon apart of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Field. 

Suffolk (6-2) had three run-producing hits in the third inning to take an early lead and never trailed the Red Hawks (1-6). 

Sophomore Brady Chant started things off with a two-run single before seniors Jon Lapolla, Rob Marks and Drew Carter put the Rams out in front 5-0. Ripon got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, before Suffolk extend its lead in the 7-1 in the fourth off Seth Coiley's two-out, two-run double to right field. 

After a scoreless fifth on both sides, the Rams bats heated up again in the sixth. Chant bombed a solo homer, the first of his career, to deep left to start things off. Jake Frasca singled to center, plating Coiley and Marks in the process, before Carter brought in Lapolla. With two out, Frasca rounded the bases on a Luke Ronchi RBI double and Greg Speliotis picked up an RBI to round out Suffolk's scoring and make it a 14-1 score. 

The Red Hawks brought in one final run in the seventh to make the final 14-2 score. 

Suffolk junior Chuck Gibson went all seven and picked up his first victory of the season by allowing two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and now walks. 

Chant's four hits led the way with the Warwick, Rhode Island native driving in and scoring three. Marks had three hits, drove in one and scored three times. Lapolla (2-for-5), Frasca (2-for-5) and Carter (2-for-3) were the other Suffolk players with multi-hit games. Carter and Frasca had a pair of RBIs, respectively, while Lapolla brought in one. 

Coiley (1-2) and Ronichi had a hit and 2 RBIs each for the Rams. Zach Grogan collected his first career hit, a double in the seventh. 

Suffolk's spring training schedule continues tomorrow with Bay State rival UMass Boston. First pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m.
