The Salve Regina Seahawaks extended their winning streak to 10 games to move to a 22-14 overall season record with a 12-6 victory over the Suffolk University Baseball team in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Adams Field in Quincy.
Salve put together an 18-hit attack in the win. Five players finished the game with multiple hits for the Seahawks highlighted by a 4-for-5 day at the plate by sophomore Alex Kuchich (Old Brookvilee, N.Y.). Kuchich also scored three runs in the victory.
Freshman Alex Perry (Attleboro, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with three RBI, including an RBI double in a three-run fifth inning while also scoring three times on the afternoon.
Salve staked themselves to a 5-0 lead in the top half of the first thanks to a pair of infield errors. Freshman David Neil (Randolph, Mass.) had a two-run double in the opening frame that broke things open as the Seahawks would not look back from there.
Sophomore Cole Tretter (East Lyme, Conn.) earned the win on the mound as part of the staff day for the Seahawks. He went the first four innings allowing no runs on two hits while striking out one.
Suffolk scored four times in the seventh inning as they were able to cut the deficit nearly in half. Senior JC Collette (Amesbury, Mass.) hit a bases clearing double that produced three runs to make it an 11-4 game at the time.
The Seahawks would answer in their following at bat which including four consecutive base hits to push the lead to 12-4.
In the bottom half of the eighth inning a misplayed fly ball off the bat of freshman Brady Chant (Warwick, R.I.) would plate two more Suffolk runs.
Chant, Collette and freshman Seth Coiley (Arlington, Mass.) each had two hits in the setback as Suffolk put out six hits offensively in the ball game.
Junior Ryan Kelly (Warwick, N.J.), senior Joe Haley (North Kingstown, R.I.), sophomore Hunter Sleeper (Arlington, Mass.) and freshman John Militano (Miller Place, N.Y.) all had two hits in the win for Salve Regina.
Salve Regina will now open up the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament on Thursday afternoon as they travel to Endicott College for game one of the tournament.
Suffolk will take on UMass Dartmouth in non-league action at 4:00pm at Adams Field.
