Lasell Tops Suffolk 6-2 In GNAC Makeup

The Lasell College Lasers defeated the Suffolk University Baseball team 6-2 as part of game two of a rescheduled doubleheader on Tuesday evening.

Junior Wes Hurty (Windsor, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a three run home run in the seventh to lead the Lasers offensively as they improve to a 10-12 overall mark and 6-4 record in GNAC play.

Junior Gary Trottier (Rehoboth, Mass.) went the first five innings on the mound for the Lasers to earn his first victory of the season as he allowed just one run while striking out six.

Both teams were locked in a 0-0 deadlock until the home half of the fifth when freshman Seth Coiley (Arlington, Mass.) brought the game's first run home with a sacrifice fly. Coiley sent sophomore Luke Ronchi (Randolph, N.J.) home as he led the inning off with a base hit.

Lasell would answer in the top half of the sixth inning as they scored three times.  The Lasers would load the bases with one out when Hurty fired a single through the right side of the infield to bring home freshman Jesse Tejero (West Haven, Conn.) who led the inning off with a single. Junior Tyler Flaherty (Portland, Me.) would then deliver the go-ahead single with two outs that drove in a pair making it a 3-1 game.

Hurty would connect on his second home run of the season, a towering drive to left field to make it a 6-1 game in the seventh.

Junior Jon Lapolla added a solo shot for Suffolk in the sixth.

Lasell will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference game with Nichols before hosting Anna Maria College on Thursday.

Suffolk (10-13 overall, 6-3 GNAC) will travel to Holman Stadium on Wednesday evening to makeup game two of their doubleheader from last Friday with Rivier University at 7:00pm.
