Cintolo's Homer Lifts Suffolk to Come From Behind Victory

The Suffolk University Baseball team overcame a 10-4 deficit in the sixth inning of game two to salvage a doubleheader split with Rhode Island College on Saturday afternoon coming away with a 12-10 victory in the nightcap.

Senior Jake Cintolo (Wrentham, Mass.) hit a go-ahead three run homer in the sixth inning, his first of the season to put Suffolk ahead 11-10. Trailing 10-4 at the start of the inning, junior JC Collette (Amesbury, Mass.) drew a leadoff walk before a double down the left field line by senior Devan Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) put a pair of runners in scoring position. Senior Jack Sullivan (Hamilton, N.Y.) got the scoring started when his two strike single to left plated the first run of the inning, before freshman Luke Ronchi (Randolph, N.J.) plated two more runs with a single to right. Cintolo would keep the rally going when he launched a towering drive over the left field fence plating Ronchi and senior Mac Jacobson (Norfolk, Mass.) to give Suffolk the 11-10 edge. Freshman Matt Brenner (Eliot, Me.) continued the scoring as he doubled to right and would later come around to score on an errant throw by the Anchormen to cap the inning off with the two run lead.

Freshman Tim Conroy (Arlington, Mass.) retired all four hitters he faced in his inning and a third of work in relief to earn his first collegiate victory. Junior Frank Tierney (Hyde Park, Mass.) pitched a scoreless seventh to record his first save of the season.

Sophomore Jon Lapolla (Providence, R.I.) opened the scoring in the game for Suffolk as he hit his second home run of the season, a two run shot to center in the first inning. Lapolla was one of three players to record multiple hits in the game to help pace an 11-hit attack.

Lapolla was 1-for-2 in game one, with an RBI double in the sixth inning in a 12-2 setback for Suffolk. The Rams were limited to just four hits in the opener as Jacobson recorded a pair of singles, while sophomore Rob Marks (Revere, Mass.) accounted for Suffolk's other hit in the game.

Saturday's split moves Suffolk's record to 4-6-1 on the young season.

Suffolk will now be idle until Wednesday afternoon when they travel to Salem State University for a 3:30pm non-conference contest with the Vikings.
